Mimi Farina (1945-2001) was an American folk singer and musician, best known for her work as part of the duo, Mimi and Richard Fariña. Mimi was born in San Francisco, California to a musical family and began her career in the early 1960s performing in coffeehouses and folk clubs.
In 1963, Mimi teamed up with her husband, Richard Fariña, to form the musical duo, Mimi and Richard Fariña. They released several albums together and quickly gained a following in the folk music scene. Their music was characterized by their harmonizing vocals, intricate guitar work, and socially conscious lyrics.
Tragically, Richard Fariña died in a motorcycle accident in 1966, ending the duo's musical partnership. Mimi continued to perform and record music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, collaborating with various artists and releasing several solo albums.
In addition to her musical career, Mimi Farina was also a social activist and philanthropist. She co-founded the organization Bread and Roses, which brought live music performances to people in hospitals, nursing homes, and other institutional settings.
Mimi Farina passed away in 2001 at the age of 56, but her legacy lives on through her music and her charitable work. She is remembered as a talented musician and a compassionate humanitarian.
